Colombia, known for its innovation mindset in the region, participated in the Mobile World Congress 2025 (MWC 2025), one of the world’s most important events focused on connectivity and digital infrastructure. At the event, the country showed that its commitment to technological transformation is not hesitant, but bold and determined.

Here’s a look at how the country of beauty participated in this global event and how the country is progressing in key areas such as Artificial Intelligence, the advancement of 5G technology, and the implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT). All central topics at MWC 2025, and all areas where Colombia has promising developments to share.

What is the Mobile World Congress?

With the slogan Converge. Connect. Create., MWC 2025 was a global congress centered on the convergence of technologies such as generative artificial intelligence, 5G networks, and the expansion of IoT worldwide. These key pillars guided the conversation on how the rules of the game are being rewritten across multiple industries and economic sectors.

This year, the event took place in Barcelona from March 3 to 6, bringing together more than 109,000 attendees from 205 countries and featuring more than 1,200 speakers. It also brought together over 2,900 exhibitors, sponsors, tech investors and partners, making it an ideal space for companies in the sector seeking new growth opportunities.

How Was Colombia's Presence at the Event?

Since 2011, Colombian companies from the tech and digital sectors have taken part in the Mobile World Congress, achieving important commercial results and international exposure. This year, Colombia participated with the support of public entities like ProColombia, which led a delegation made up of 15 national companies from the sector. With this, the country marked 14 consecutive years of participation in the event.

But beyond numbers and continuity, what was evident this year was a vision of Colombia as a country that wants to position itself on the global stage as a tech hub and key provider of solutions in software development, digital content, artificial intelligence, and IT services. A country that is not only interested in adopting emerging technologies but also in developing them, thanks to the quality of its human talent and its growing ecosystem of innovation.

Artificial Intelligence with a Colombian Stamp

In 2024, Colombia made progress on a new National Artificial Intelligence Policy. A roadmap with clear goals to strengthen research, training and the ethical use of AI in strategic sectors. In addition, the country already has specialized centers and public-private partnerships that seek to integrate this technology transversally into the economy.

With this, Colombia is laying the foundation for AI to become a structural tool for national development. And that’s already turning into concrete opportunities: from improving public services and citizen care, to enabling companies to implement smart connectivity solutions in Colombia and stay competitive in the digital era.

Colombia Advances in the Progress of 5G Networks

Starting in 2024, Colombia officially began the deployment of 5G technology. This new network doesn’t just mean faster internet—it represents a complete transformation in the way people, cities, and industries connect and communicate. The arrival of 5G paves the way for a whole new generation of services: smart cities, advanced telemedicine, real-time industrial automation, and even autonomous transportation.

For the country’s business ecosystem, this leap means better service quality, greater competitiveness, and, above all, the opportunity to design innovative solutions across multiple sectors, both nationally and regionally.

Although Colombia was not among the first countries in the region to implement 5G, it has the necessary infrastructure to advance at a faster pace than others. The country is now in a position to accelerate adoption and capitalize on the benefits of this technology more rapidly.

Fertile ground for the Internet of Things (IoT)

Colombia is also keeping up when it comes to the Internet of Things in Latin America. Since 2019, the country has had its first specialized lab in this area: the IoT Lab, an alliance between the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and iNNpulsa. This center supports the development of connected products, promotes the efficient use of data, and helps drive entrepreneurship in a collaborative innovation environment.

On the other hand, Colombian companies are beginning to innovate with this type of technology to offer new products and solutions. All of this translates into a favorable environment for innovation, driven by the talent of Colombians.
